Campers and motorhomes like the NorthStar Camper are ideal for anyone who loves to travel and spend time in the great outdoors. They provide you with a place where you can rest that is more convenient than a tent and more affordable than staying at a motel along the way.

And depending on the size of your camper, you may have extra amenities such as a kitchen, bathroom, or bedroom. That makes it easier to get a good night’s rest and cook healthy meals, so you don’t have to rely on eating snacks all the time.

NorthStar is one of the most popular camper manufacturing companies.

They feature an extensive lineup of vehicles you can choose from and are considered more reliable, durable, and long-lasting than many other makes and models. But as with any product out there, these campers do have some disadvantages that you should be aware of before purchasing.

Layout Issues

When compared to other similar motorhomes, NorthStar campers tend to have a more complicated layout. They feature several appliances such as an air conditioner and a refrigerator, making the interior space a little cramped, especially if you have several family members travelling with you.

With many models, the plumbing, fuel supply piping, electrical wiring, and heating are all located close together, which could be concerning since it places you at a higher risk of fire or a water leak, especially when driving through warmer climates during the summer.

The hoses could also become damaged and develop holes easily. Because so many people use their campers to travel a long distance, they will usually modify the layout of the wiring and plumbing before heading out. It can help to significantly reduce the risk of damage, leaks, or accidents.

Excess Dirt Entering the Motorhome

Another common issue that NorthStar owners can relate to is the excess dirt and debris entering their motorhome. You can easily track the dirt throughout the vehicle, which can become very annoying after several days out on the road.

The accumulation of dirt inside your camper typically happens whenever you go camping in the forest or a wooded area. That is because the soil in these areas could be clay-like, and it easily gets stuck to your footwear or clothing. It’s an issue that is near impossible to prevent.

The best solution for this problem is to add a welcome mat at your motorhome’s door to help reduce the amount of dirt that enters it. You can also keep a small vacuum on your vehicle to help remove the dirt.

However, you should bring along a vacuum that will not drain your vehicle’s battery too much or use a portable, rechargeable handheld vacuum instead. You can also bring along multiple pairs of footwear or remove your shoes as you enter the camper so that you aren’t tracking dirt everywhere.

Electrical Wiring Issues

Most modern campers will have wireless features that use Bluetooth and cut down on the mess of electrical wiring to deal with. However, if you have an older model NorthStar camper, you should be prepared to have some issues with your wiring. Additionally, your larger appliances such as your stove or refrigerator will always have electrical wiring.

Wires that run from your electronics to your RV’s power supply can often become damaged or cut while you are on the road, causing your appliance or other devices to no longer work as they should.

If you check the wires and do not see an issue but still have no power going to your device, you should check if the electrical socket is working. The fuse for the socket could have blown, and if that is the case, you will need to check the fuse and replace it with a new one if needed.

If you do find that the problem is with your electrical wiring, you will need to have this repaired immediately.. Faulty wiring can lead to electrical fires and can be very dangerous. If you are unsure about how to repair these issues, you should take your motorhome to an expert who can take care of the repairs for you.

Battery Failure

Your adventure on the road could come to a screeching halt if your motorhome dies while on the road. Battery failure not only causes issues with your travel plans but it can also cause your food to spoil if you have perishable items in your refrigerator.

If you are experiencing issues with your battery, you will need to have the issue resolved as quickly as possible. Your battery needs to be checked often to ensure the water levels are where they need to be. If the water levels are low, the battery will not charge and eventually run out. It is also important to keep the electrodes on your battery clean.

That is because layers of oxide can start to form on them and stop the current from flowing in and out of the battery.

If you regularly check these two items and still experience battery failure, you likely need to replace your battery with a new one. That is why experienced campers always keep a spare, charged battery in their RV for backup in case of an emergency.

You never know when your battery may fail to work, and you don’t want to be miles away from civilization when that happens.

The NorthStar camper is considered by many to be one of the highest quality motorhomes out there. But that doesn’t mean users haven’t had their fair share of issues with these campers.

Design flaws such as faulty plumbing and pipes and electrical wiring layout can usually be fixed by the owner. And although it can be a nuisance, the issue with excess dirt entering in can also be easily maintained.

Battery failure is perhaps the most expensive issue to resolve, but replacing the battery usually takes care of the issue and it is a simple process. So, even though the NorthStar camper has its problems, they can all be resolved quickly and easily.
